This week, I got to sit down with Evan Armstrong about the launch of his new publication, The Leverage. First edition goes out tomorrow, so be sure to subscribe!
In this conversation, Evan and I unpacked his approach to building a publication around the idea of explaining to his readers not just “what” happened, but “why.”
Hope you enjoy our jam session as much as I did!
In addition to this conversation, I’m doing something a little bit different this week. My conversation with Evan was the cherry on top of a thread that I’ve been pulling on in my head for a few weeks now. This morning, I sat down to write up a few thoughts to accompany my conversation with Evan, but what I found was I had a lot more to say than I had capacity to say in the moment. I was pouring myself into something that was an innate part of me. Not just how I grew up in tech, but what I’m building in tech now with things like this blog and with Contrary Research.
So, instead of just sharing this conversation as my post for this week with a few reflective thoughts, I need to keep writing that piece as well. Which means you’ll get a bonus piece from me this week (hasn’t happened in a while, if not ever, I think.) It will be called “The State of Startup Media: A Newfound Republic of Letters.” And it will unpack the broader evolution of media in the land of company building.
Evan’s work building The Leverage plays right into that narrative. He’s establishing his unique voice in a world that is hungry for startup stories and context that isn’t default pessimistic or skeptical.
Be sure to check out my conversation with Evan here, and stay tuned for a bonus piece later this afternoon when I have time to finish it (after I take my kids to a tulip festival.) See you soon!
