All good story. A few corrections. McDonnell was not a profit at all cost producer that destroyed Boeing. Note that the F15, F18, C17, Tomahawk, JDAM were all developed by McAir and have dominated combat for decades. F47 is derivative of the McAir developed bird of prey. The last supper happened after the merger. The decline came from infusion of GE management philosophy in 2004 Period. The consolidation across defense did though reduce innovation. Before the merger with McAir, Boeing was losing much of its military skill and innovation. Post merger there was huge resistance from legacy Boeing to drive innovation in military. I managed the R&D investment process for the Boeing CTO for 3 years post merger. Mullay was essentially a pasifist, going as far to internally mock the military technology advances Phantom Works was making. So much so that the military demanded his removal from any oversight of military development.

Anduril is building around network centric which was initiated in the 90s via DARPA, McDonnell and Lockheed. It is great to see their success.
